Foster County Public Health Tobacco Prevention and Control Program follow the CDC-recommended statewide comprehensive tobacco control program.

CDC, The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is the nation’s premier health promotion, and preparedness agency and a global leader in public health. It remains at the forefront of public health efforts to prevent and control infectious and chronic diseases, injuries, workplace hazards, disabilities, and environmental health threats.

The primary objective of the CDC-recommended statewide comprehensive tobacco control program is to reduce the personal and societal burden of tobacco-related death and illnesses.
Our goals for comprehensive tobacco control programs include:
• Preventing initiation among youth and young adults
• Promoting quitting among adults and youth
• Eliminating exposure to secondhand smoke
• Identifying and eliminating tobacco-related disparities among population groups

CDC has prepared these “best practices” to help states organize their tobacco control program efforts into an effective structure that uses interventions proven to be effective.

The mission of comprehensive tobacco control is clear……to reduce disease, disability and death related to tobacco use. It’s imperative that we continue a sustained comprehensive program.

BreatheND is the official website and logo of the Center for Tobacco Prevention and Control Policy, a division of the tobacco Prevention and Control Executive Committee. In 2008, North Dakota voters passed a statewide Initiated Measure 3 that created the Tobacco Prevention and Control Executive Committee and requires a portion of the money North Dakota receives from tobacco settlement dollars to be used for tobacco prevention and control programs.

The Tobacco Prevention and Control Executive Committee, along with the North Dakota Department of Health and other partners, are charged with implementing North Dakota’s comprehensive state tobacco prevention plan: Saving Lives – Saving Money.

Measure 3 provides funding to Foster County Public Health to diminish the toll of tobacco in our state by addressing the number one preventable cause of death and disease: tobacco use.
